blogging via email | the forgotten world of email | part two

not all blog hosts or programs allow for posting via email - but that doesn't mean it isn't possible.

for now we're going to look at blogspot hosted by google - which does allow posting via email. in the future, i will provide a sample list of programs and blog hosts which do provide this feature (just a wee bit of searching to do before then). i also plan to present an entire article on posting and reading blogs through email - without an agrregator client (per se) nor a webbased aggregator either (note enough info at the bottom of this posting to get you there).

is it possible to post via email?

at blogger the answer is yes. the source of the answer is found here in the blogger knowledge base.

"How do I post via email?

A new feature for many users, Mail-to-Blogger turns any email account into a blog-posting application. In Settings | Email you can create a Mail-to-Blogger address which you will use to send posts via email to your blog:



To post to your blog via email, you need to configure your Mail-to-Blogger email address in Settings | Email:



The format of the email address is username.secretword@blogger.com. Note that this email address must be kept secret. Unless you want your blog to be spammed, that is.

Also be sure to specify whether or not you prefer your email posts to publish automatically or saved as drafts to be published later.

Once you have saved your Settings, you can send email to your blog. The subjects of your email letters will be the titles of your posts, and the body of the emails will be the posts themselves.

Here's what it'll look like when configured:

Note that by default Mail-to-Blogger only posts to your blog. If you wish for it to publish as well, you'll need to click the Publish option (in the above screenshot).

Notes:

* Sometimes email programs append text to the bottom of each sent message; to make sure this cruft doesn't get posted to your blog, put #end at the end of your post.
* Mail-to-Blogger does not yet work with image attachments."
