I am a Religious, Extroverted, Sexual, Interdependent, Intellectual...

what?
i am a Religious, Extroverted, Sexual, Interdependent, Intellectual, Stable, Mystical, Artist (or something like that) At least, according to the online personality test ('Advanced Global Personality Test' 2 be exact) i am.

more?
well, if we rolled further down i suppose i am a religious, extroverted, sexual, interdependent, intellectual, stable, mystical, artist, with a conflict seeking, histrionic, adventurous side. now, if this were my online profile??? i am not sure how i would compose this to line up with my 43 levels, 6 degrees, or 23 dimensions of compatability - though i am sure my wife would suggest (if accurate) these things would be the source of trouble in the long run :-)

less?
i suppose this also says that i am NOT a peter pan complexed, female cliched (what does that mean - i have no feminine side, true - but what do it mean?), paranoid, wealthy, hypersensitive, avoidant. whew! what a relief :-)

the middle ground?
it's probably the middle o' the road stuff that might tell the most about a person. let's see, hmmm ... according to just the straight 50% scores: i am a hard working, hedonistic, narcissitic, dependent, concerned with personal security.

the 50%'s
that last bit probably tells some odd truth about who we are when no one's looking :-)

opinion
these tests probably give some snapshot view of ourselves at given moments (like when we're taking them) and probably aren't very useful on their own. descriptive? probably in some escher painting sense - if u'd like to see youself in an escher-sketch :-) (or maybe the results are more like a circus mirror ... maybe?).

prescriptive? as in let's use these results to define and project and propose anything about ourselves? i'd suggest that no one fall for that.

useful?
a tool? the real tests (and even this one to some degree) might make a good springboard for discussion and gaining insight into one's life.

insight doesn't equal change
however, insight all by itself - no matter how much one gets - never equals a single bit of behavior change. if someone's looking for help in life - we're usually looking for some form of cognitive behavioral change. insight, catharsis, etc., do not equal healing, restoration, or anything of the sort. such things accompany life changes - and big (or small) as they sometimes appear - they never equal change (at best only a prompt towards actions which will result in growth, change, etc.,).

amos dettonville mini-sermon over...

why?
hmmm, i never understand why i see 1000 of these tests online - and then one day i do one? though i am glad that i have little or no temptation (as a rule) to do them, i wonder what part of the "procrastination gene" or "goof off factor" kicks in that makes me waste my time doing these online tests, quizzes, surveys, etc.?

probably, the most telling thing might be to explore why someone would waste their time seeing what their soap opera actors name is, or which soft drink are you quiz, etc. probably for leisure, fun, a distraction, or to hopefully relate - somehow, someway, over this thing we call the internet. people need people.

320 blogs directory - something cool u can do 2

320 blogs directory
320 Blogs Directory IMG
i created this directory as a preview and an example of something useful and cool for bloggers and people with websites from myspace to anything else online. you can create your own directory of links and websites easily and quickly and for free with mylinea.

if you're a blogger and have a blog - please help me fill up my directory - it's a free link to you no strings attached. just don't even bother subbing porn or anything of that nature or some splash page from your affiliate program (blogs only please).

note: i did have google ads on there - before mylinea added their own. i just took mine down - so the ads you see on the directory are not mine.

i noticed a free forum offer there as well... click the dots :-)

note2: if you want to check your meta tags or learn more about setting those up - then try subbing your blog to the directory at 320 blogs and u'll see what's there (or not there). tips on tagging can be found in the first link (first 3 really) on this post: Topic Blog Promotion

that's E I N S T E I N you Einstein! computer saturdays

so, in my last post IMG i actually wrote:

"imagine usenet on speed in some einstien equation."

now, when vowels go a'walkin' the first one does the talkin' - in english. but, not so much in german.

...this came to my mind at work - bugged me enough to post on it.

spelling einstein wrong - probably shouldn't bug me.

maybe it's just an excuse to post a pic of good old Al on my blog:

albert einstein and computers

nothing more here to look at really...

well, it is computer sale saturday ... not much to say about that either - except to give the link and offer a quick blurb on some great PC deals available from mostbloggers:

a blurb: Best Selling notebooks online ... that's enough blurbage...

curious about the price thing and the listing tag - it's edgeio

danger dettonville's mix 2.0 (a reese)

sometimes, my alter ego (one of many) comes to the fore... "danger dettonville" has these ideas... thoughts, things he'll never do ... things he'd like to see done ...

i call them, "reeseys" from the old commercials for reeses peanut butter cups (back before peanuts became anathema .... cuz they kill people ya know!) ... anyway, the commercial kinda had one person with chocolate and one with peanut butter and the tagline was always, "hey, you got your peanut butter in my chocolate" to which the other would respond, "you got your chocolate in my peanut butter." the ensuing experience was always one of joyous rapture as the discovered the wonder of this "new" combo.

so, here's danger dettonville's latest "reesey" an interesting idea of cobbling together several cool things out there. look at it this way, if the idea's dumb or impossible, at least once again some excellent dettonville links have been served up. btw, danger dettonville is twice as popular and three times as sexy as the regular dettonville.

danger dettonville's latest ressey:

referez IMG - begin with a touch of what the innovative people of etamp (rip) fame - who bring us the excellent blabb and bookmarkr ... have offered with referez. what? just a snippet of special code for each site - which gives a live reading of what's popular and happening online at the moment.

talkdigger IMG mix in talkdigger's aims to track conversations.

edgeio IMG - throw some tag gathering (non-walled garden approach) to snapping up tags.

broadmining IMG and use lowide's broadmining approach to sort and coallate the data.

and here's an example of what i think could be done. say, a sports bloggers are following their sport of choice. posts on the topic could be drilled down to baseball >> detriot >> play offs >> world series >>. or another might be basketball >> nba >> 76'ers >> allen iverson. this reesey brings the discussion - current and recent - to the table. bloggers interact - not in a walled garden - but all over. imagine usenet on speed in some einstien equation.

blogger A blogs about topic X - this reesey picks that up - sorts it into a niched, topical disscusion, that's happening fast - like now - and suddenly - the conversation is "on topic" and not based soley upon blogger G or blogger Y's ability to gather a community of like minded bloggers. instead, the whole idea of interactivity - and web 2.0 is something rather excellent.

the fans of structured blogging get that good world of topical order. the fans of authentic ergonomic blogging get that free for all experience.

anyway, i haven't thought this out - what would be the fun of blogging on it if i had?

sounds ... like something cool could come of an idea like this.

luckily, danger dettonville's got bigger fish to fry... and a world of danger to explore.

hmmm, maybe a bit of the vivismo/clusty results working with the above might be cool as well?

mostbloggers Next Day PC ... musing on meta tagging

mostbloggers NextDayPC IMG
every saturday i post a bit about the computer stuff offered on this blog. if you're looking for some great deals on computer stuff - hey, check it out or bookmark the link:
http://cognigen.net/pc/?mostbloggers

but this post is about meta tags - and a musing or two:

meta tag nerd
now, i am a bit of a nerd about still using meta tags - even in blogs and on blogger. if you view the source code of any individual post on mostbloggers - you will see how the tags change (and while not an example of the best tags) they do an important job in helping people find me in search engines.

curious amos dettonville
anyway, i tend to peek at meta info in the source codes of many pages (among other things) and i thought i'd take a looky at the words on my NextDayPC page...

the findings
what i found was an example of something i have been seeing quite a bit of on webpages - keyword loading in meta tags - both in the description and in the keywords.

this technique? i am not sure how well it works - though from what i have assumed, it's a way of getting all your info up and front for the google-like approach of page crawling.

a test
for an example i will sub this computer page to a meta tag test online: see it here

here are the full descriptions and keywords taken from the source view (they're so long i made the font small and tiny):

description:

now let me pick a tag set from one of my posts:
50 places to submit your blog (part three)

description:
mostbloggers | isp | blog: 50 places to submit your blog (part three) Amos Dettonville's blog about interesting things found on the internet. Topics from everything to email, search, social bookmarking, rss, to blogging, web promotion and humor.

keywords:
mostbloggers | isp | blog: 50 places to submit your blog (part three) north america,US,canada, computers, internet, internet access, isp, service provider, weblog, blog, email, free, dialup, dsl, broadband,

think i need to rework those tags a bit - they don't fully capture everything about my blog.

actually, the post i used for this test - has some great info on tagging in meta style - something i need to read for myself. here's the link again - really over 500 places to submit your blog - the links need to be checked and updated - but they will work.

a few more links from mostbloggers and a song

i am slowly checking and cleaning up some links on this blog - and posting them as i do. what you'll find below are mostly vanity searches - but there are some good places to get your site or blog listed as well.

hotvsnot IMG
a directory where you can sub your blog or website. mine is at the link given.

yoofindit IMG
another search directory - my blog listing faithfully there since being added.

surfy IMG
surfy's been around for quite a while (i think) just check out the surfy classic page.

searchallinone IMG
a meta search many people don't seem to know about - it's interface is simple and results r clean. they even offer grouped results in the side bar.

flexfinder IMG
interesting search results

iconnic IMG
iconnic - cool results for a search.

scrubtheweb IMG
scrub the web is probably one of the better places to help bloggers (and website builders) learn the basics of old school meta tag set up for their sites, blogs, etc. in the age of google - it seems old school - but those tags are still useful.

infosniff IMG
yet another search listing - they also have a query archive of searched terms. i think i'll do a post on some of those searches that have searched terms for the search voyer.

and how about 2 songs? one that i am featuring on my myspace this week by cats in practice and another song from my friend chris carder that seems to be popular this week for some reason. it's one of his old songs - maybe some of his old fans are just finding him online?

anyway these come via project opus (the indie music choice):

and

dang, i cannot get the page to load - just visit myspace/dettonville to check out the song of the week from cats in practice. if the song has change follow this link: cats

searching larry norman's "If the Bombs Fall"

in my last post - i began revisiting some old posts on the topic of internet searches (curious about how and if things had changed much). i thought i would turn things inside out and continue to check out some searches - just in a different way.

tonight i was reading a bit of francis schaeffer and i came across what surely must have been the ideas behind larry norman's song, "if the bombs fall."

francis wrote about how frightful the idea of the A-Bomb or the H-Bomb was to a modern-modern humanity that lives in the belief system that the individual is the sole observer (or that collectively, humans are the sole observers - as far as we know - in the universe). first, it's lonely and cold as space to hold such a belief and secondly - the devastation of the "bomb falling" would mean the end of the observer and the loss of all that is beauty (among all other observable things).

larry's song captures this with the idea in a love song where the singer ponders aloud what should happen to the love he shares with his lover should the bombs fall.

and throughout this song i'll just play with some search engines for fun (including some larry links and a vanity search).

IF THE BOMBS FALL

If the bombs fall, baby I love you,
If they end it all, baby I love you
Through it all, I want you to know I love you.

Silver raindrops falling from on high
While a dark red cloud fills up the sky,
I don't want our love to end this way.

What about the songs we haven't sung?
What about the things we haven't done.
What's the matter with this world today?

Well, If the bombs fall, baby I love you,
If they end
it all, baby I love you
Through it all
, I want you to know I love you.

You and I are still so very young,
And with love, the best is yet to come,
God has let me choose you - I don't wanna lose you.

Who can say tomorrow will find its way.
Who can say the sun will shine today.
Baby I adore you, that's why I'm living for you.

But if the bombs fall, baby I love you,
If they end it all, baby I love you
Through it all, I want you to know I love you.

And through the years and all the long hard miles,
We'll shed some tears, but we will share the smiles.
Don't cry, I want you to
