5 Things You Didn't Know About Me

Amos Dettonville Tagged
well, what do you know, i've been tagged (not like in the pic - and those are not my ugly feet - they're someone else's ugly feet). cctech tagged me with the "da da daaaaaah!"

List the Top 5 Things You Didn't Know About Me!

Some Correction
alright, it's not really the "Top 5" or "Top 10" even. it's simply, "5 things you didn't know about me." but, in the spirit of new years and all of those top ten and top five lists floating around - well, i just had to add my spin to the tagging process.

so, without further ad..., without further adu..., without...., let's just cut to the chase, k?

Amos Dettonville's Top 5 Things You Did Not Know About Me:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting i was once chased home from a neighborhood football game by a UFO (check the grammar on that sentence eh?).

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting if i could endure the process, i would grow a ZZ Top like beard. as it stands, i am having trouble living through the "¡viva! the revolution" phase to the gnome beard phase.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting i once weighed only 95 pounds (it's true).

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting i have swam the second deepest ocean (also true).

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting i graduated in the top 80% of my class.

crystal coast tech (cctech) tagged me, so in turn i choose to tag the following:

btw, i know ronald mcdonald - and cctech is being misleading about the playground thing (my guess). and as always (mostly always) look 4 the hidden links - stuff u might have seen or not).

Big Dang Feed Chicklet and Rabbit Feed...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

cctech stopped by mybloglog community and invited me to join their software and technology community. i paid another visit to their blog and noticed: the World’s Largest RSS Button post.

well, i just had to try... it's not as pretty as the one on cctech's blog about
"SEO and Search Engine News plus Techology and Internet News" but, it has a nice flair about it ... IMHO.

besides, cctech stopped by and fed the rabbit - always a good thing.

plus, it works too :-)

rabit51 ... amos always wanted a bunny

not much to say here ... wanted to see if this would work in a post and so...

adopt your own virtual pet!

btw, rabit51 is one of my oldest nics ... i suppose it might be something about how prolific rabbits are ... that at some point they might begin to use numbers as opposed to names ... but that's not my meaning :-)

merry christmas from amos (christmas 2006)

merry christmas!
my christmas greeting this year was inspired by orli (my guess lori - another anagram named blogger) of Go2web2.blogspot and .net. i discovered her and her blog and much on mybloglog (of which i vote no-name-change but, they probably will).

anyway, go to my greeting and make your own too ... it's probably not too late to play at all (depends on when you're reading this :^))

a repost: keotag plus: some more info below

yeah, with so many new things popping up online - i often wonder how things i have written about are doing.

so, this is a repost - of my original post (with miss spellings included):

begin repost:

Image hosting by Photobucket

now, this is cool: keotag <--- just hit the link and search a tag. i searched mostbloggers, music, fun, and cheese... more on this later.

oh, btw, try searching keotag on keotag...

a few added just to test this: chris carder, project opus, amos dettonville (never been a tag afaik), space.... (each search might take some time to load ... so be patient).

now, be sure to go directly to keotag and search from thier interface (not just by these links i have provided) otherwise you'll miss how cool the search interface is.

end repost:

tag generator
now, the tags at the end of this post were created with keotag's tag generator - let's see how the look and work.

social
and social bookmark links will be created with keotag's social bookmark generator

a link thing
and here's a links thing:

Keotag search and tag generators

getting into the evolution of mybloglog

recently, i have been enjoying the continued evolution of MyBlogLog - below is a sampling of family friends and contacts from my mybloglog

Family, Friends and Contacts (21)

fxseminar
fxseminar

i think i made the table a bit wide ... but the mixing of avatars, blogging, websites, and link logging is one of those, "you got your peanut butter in my chocolate" things - a reese mix that's dang cool.

this isn't viral - it's not even what i would call "intuitive" - rather it's adding the face and community in such an interesting, odd even, different sort of way - that people can connect in a kind of "blog match making service" of sorts

it's a smooth way to get into communities of interest and see what's hot or going on in those communities as well.

... anyway, check it out ... sign up ... enjoy!

check out mostbloggers community while ur there.

very rare ... a plain old style blog post on mostbloggers

oh boy what a day
for fun today, i woke up feeling queezy in the stomach and eventually came to the realization: "stomach virus" and all the fun that brings to the body (yuk).

i try to get better before work, but to no avail - and just after i call in sick (another rarity) - my wife comes home with the same thing. mixed with a "high on christmas kid" the fun has been non-stop around here for this day (and into this night).

happy holidays
i just have to laugh, "happy holidays!" and all that rot. to keep the kid busy while things in the house were not normal - i popped in the vid of jim carey and ron howard's version of the "grinch who stole Christmas." it was my first time seeing the movie. i am not a big jim carey fan, think jerry lewis - it's about the same in my book. there's humor there, but in the end, i find it irritating.

the grinch
the movie was alright, it certainly has words in it that i do not want my kid saying - which begs the question: why put them in there in the first place. the relative innocence of children is a battle worth fighting to preserve, even when people use words and phrases in a poor fashion - it robs just a hint of the kid time you never can get back again, IMHO.

they got the story of the grinch wrong - that's my biggest issue with the movie. the "whos" in whoville are portrayed as having become commercialized in their quest to celebrate Christmas (a tired over worn tale if ever there was one). it's simply not true to suess - who always wrote of the "whos" as being a kind of people you wouldn't notice - a "who?" are they kind of people, if you follow.

in suess
in suess, it's the grinch who is wrong, not everybody - the whos have it right. the grinch just thinks that it's all about the gifts and stuff and food and noise. in the end, the reaction of the kindly "whos of whoville" correct and heal the grinch. in the jim carey movie, everyone's wrong - the who's are wrong by being into gifts and stuff - "commercialization" and the grinch is wrong by being anti-christmas (mostly because of issues from his psychological past).

suess was more brilliant that that - he didn't know why the grinch was so mean or against Christmas and the whos - he doesn't pretend to know. instead, it seems the grinches' heart is simply not big enough. it's a change on the inside of the grinch that makes a change in his life and not some tearful moment of coming to grips with a life time of grinchy rejection.

three thoughts
well, i still feel like hooey, and i probably didn't make my case for why the grinch movie "with real people in it" is good - but misses the point of the original.

as horton said about those whos who live all around each us each day, "...a person's a person no matter how small."

and Christmas can be filled with gifts and stuff and still not be "commercialized" if our hearts are focused on the reason for the season.

i dream of a babe in a bottle (video)

why why why? i dunno why ... but the tunes been in my head all week. now, it will probably be in yours. i was hoping to find something more ... jeanie ... like some dialog or a show scene - i shall keep looking. if you find such ... share and i'll link it here...

anyway, shows like this produced the hopeful, yet deluded generation, because let's face it - what boy didn't want a magic babe in a bottle - to be an astronaunt - and to live in florida. yet, for most of us - even 2 out of 3 is an impossibility.

rss and blog search - scam results still around

scamming rss
at some point i am going to revisit the world of rss and rss searching (much of which is covered under topic rss IMG). however, i have noticed that certain rss search services still seem more filled with google ad spammers (and such) than any actual blog results. so, i am going to look at a couple of them. i also will suggest 1 or 2 which are not corrupted in their results.

btw, these "spam blogs" as i have called them in the past - have changed over the past year. most of them appear to actually offer a bonafide link back to one's article. that's an improvement - in the past these "blogs" only offered looping links which brought up more pages within their domain - which served up more ads.

the bad
i am not going to direct link any of these blogs - not even offer a screen shot (at this point). instead, i'll just use my blog as the query and show some (not all, maybe not the worst, just some) of the rss and blog searches which feature these results.

feedster IMG
have a look, go to any post and click the title of the post - you get another page of the same (with ads refreshed). searches looking for the content, topic, terms, etc. listed in the results get more and more of a circle trip around the same site and the owner racks up ad impressions (and they hope - clicks).

some still do not offer authentic links (at least not without some effort - and a few not at all).

google blog search IMG
now, they do pick up legit 1st and 2nd party posts. but, there's also plenty of spam blog google adsense gamers listed in the results. here i found several which offered nothing of a link back to the original post and i'll break down and link to 1 of the sorry them.

the good
that's enough press for such blogs for now. these two searches tend to turn up the most. the following seem much cleaner and offer better, cleaner search results for their efforts.

icerocket IMG
wow!, even here a few of these blogs have just recently found their way into the results. usually, they get slammed pretty fast here though. still rather clean ... but not perfect.

blogdigger IMG
still, what seem to be incredible and clean results. way to go blogdigger!

technorati IMG
i have read a gazillion posts about people complaining about this or that with technorati ... all i can say is, "you gotta love the 'rati!" they keep taking stides to be the top. i think their pages load funny - cumbersome like. however, the results have almost always been - "non-sense free"! way to go techno!

the ugly
hmmm, what to do for the ugly? it just seemed it needed to be here. i technically don't want to pick on any service out there. let's see, blogdex and popdex might just have been my picks for this list. bloogz being a close third.

peac4d.
amos dettonville

p.s. many people confuse, IMHO, biz blogs with spam - that's silly ... a blog can be anything the blogger wishes these days. the most important thing is that a blog is authentic and a human generated source and that it lives and dies by content above all else. that's just my opinion on the matter.

p.s.s. the above listed services are not the worst, the best, etc., they are supplied simply as examples.

live face on the web? this freaked me out a bit...

live face on web IMG
i saw this and thought it was freaky ... interesting too. people come up with some interesting online marketing stuff. this one beats the heck out of a cartoon face talking at you.
