now that yahoo has taken both mybloglog and webjay over and fully made them a part of the yahoo world ... will they die? will they continue? will they thrive?
mybloglog - now requires a yahoo id for access ... i have one (a yahoo id) but do i want to even sign in with a new id? actually, i find myself hesitant and actually not willing to sign in - nothing has intinced (or is that "entinced") me so far.
... actually, i gave up and signed in ... only to have my avatar changed to a grey face thing - and the presence of a cookie - which continued to track me and show up on mybloglog and blogs / sites using mybloglog - even though i had already logged out. "so what's the point?"
if someone (blogflux) offers me the ability to moniter outbound clicks - in the cool fashion that mybloglog began its whole game doing ... i might be drawn away totally.
time will tell.
webjay ... i used it - finally joining in as the development was hitting a lull - the purchase by yahoo a done deal (i now discover). i am not even sure what yahoo music is all about - i am already invested in other music sites and venues ... and not really too thrilled with the idea of yahoo music (yet - if ever).
now, i am even feeling a bit uptight about google grabbing my blogger account - and doing the same thing. i gave in - much quicker because i had already bitten the gmail (massive amounts of space and the best web-based email yet) ... so the proverbial frog in the pot was already warmed to the idea ... when blogger switched over fully.
my gripe? i am not sure ... i don't like being sold ... and even if that doesn't fully bug me ... i don't like having to grab a yahoo email for access to all things yahoo - or my gmail for all things google.
a plus - it beats the heck out of that stupid MSN passport thing which never worked for me anyway.
a minus - it still has some preque vu-ish something which turned me off to MSN passport stuff many moons ago.
i liked mybloglog - the novelty had worn off a bit - but i began with it for the stats and thats why i will keep that part of the mybloglog.com experience on my blog. i am not sure how long i will keep the widget ... or if i'll be lured to signing in again to my account.
one last thing ... MBL had something really right going for it ... sending emails when you got a contact, a message, a note, and just about any reason they could send a legit email ... and that kept me coming back. since yahoo - those emails have vanished ... and i have not been lured back into my account.
myspace has this right - you are subscribed to all you do and all that is done by others towards you - and they use email as it should be used to keep people coming back ... and it works.
my, did i just type, "myspace has it right"???!!!
time to end this rambling micro-rant.
